Storage system solutions

12. May 2025

Megatrends such as demographic change and increasing urbanisation are shaking up the world of interior design, with accessibility requirements and smaller floor plans calling for smart thinking to make the most of the space available. With these challenges in mind, new storage systems have been developed to meet particular needs in the home and improve ease of use.

Lift system makes tasks easier

As our society ages, there is a growing demand for living and working spaces that are more accessible without compromising the quality of our home environments. Infinitely adjustable lift systems – such as the Sidelift 6400 – are smart solutions providing support in the kitchen. Swedish company Granberg Interior will be presenting this innovation at interzum 2025. With its particularly sturdy construction, the worktop lift enables older people or wheelchair users to work while seated. The design is customisable, supporting the integration of sinks and hobs or the installation of cabinets underneath the worktop.

Push-open and soft-close design

interzum exhibitor King Slide promises to improve organisation in the kitchen with its new Simlead inner drawer and pull-out system. With its elegant metal design, the system optimises storage thanks to drawers at different heights. Three safety features enhance ease of use. The drawers can be opened with a light touch and switched from the dual setting – with push-open and soft-close functions – to a soft-close only setting with a simple adjustment. The Vibration Safety Design secures the drawer and locks it in the closed position.

Waste sorting plus water filtration

With its innovative waste separation system, HAILO is another company working to develop convenient solutions for the kitchen. At interzum, the manufacturer will be presenting its compact Cargo Aqua system, conceived for customers who prefer tap over bottled water. The design allows water filtration and waste separation modules to be easily installed side by side under the sink. Because the runner system connects the cabinet door asymmetrically, the waste separation modules don’t take up the entire width of the cabinet, thereby freeing up space for a water purifier.

Double the comfort and convenience

interzum is set to play host to many further exhibitors making the most of every square metre. Fittings manufacturer peka-metall, for example, will be presenting a new system that allows drawers installed in island units and room dividers to be opened from either side. Runner technology from Grass and overlaid drawer fronts are key to the Riverso model’s advantageous design. In contrast to conventional systems, the front of the closed side is not pulled through the unit when the drawer on the opposite side is opened. The new system with two pairs of runners, a connecting mechanism and drawer front brackets on both sides can be custom-fitted with drawers to meet individual requirements.

Giving drawers a power boost

Modern living environments aren’t complete without facilities for charging smartphones and other devices. At interzum, electrical engineering specialist Schulte will be demonstrating how drawers can be transformed into concealed power sources. The company’s EVOline PowerOrganiser offers a practical solution for the electrification of drawers while also helping to organise cables and devices. The built-in solution with its integrated power socket fits seamlessly into drawers of various kinds. Cables are hidden in the space behind the drawer, eliminating the risk of them developing kinks or getting jammed.

New possibilities for modern living spaces

All these innovations revolve around the same question: What will people need in their future everyday lives? Increasingly compact homes, flexible uses and changing technical requirements pose new challenges for the design of furniture and interiors. When it comes to modern storage solutions, the response begins with the development of components. From 20 to 23 May 2025, interzum in Cologne will showcase the new possibilities that this is opening up.
