Trend Forum Textile & Machinery “Mattress Recycling – From Linear to Circular”

Trend Forum Textile & Machinery

Trend Forum Textile & Machinery

The mattress industry is still largely linear. For the production of mattresses, valuable raw materials are extracted, prepared and processed, only to be disposed of later after use. This leads to a loss of economic value, a shortage of raw materials and environmental pollution. This is contrasted by the recycling principle, which aims to maintain the quality of the raw materials used so that they can be returned to the cycle after use in equal value. The Trend Forum Textile & Machinery showed which path the industry is taking to make the waste-free mattress a reality.

Under the motto "Mattress Recycling - From Linear to Circular", innovative companies and international industry associations presented ideas, products and initiatives around the circular mattress. Because they already exist - the groundbreaking innovations with which the cycle can already be closed today. Bio-based raw materials, the development towards mono-materials, modular products and the use of recycled materials are just a few examples of how experts see the trend reversal beginning.

In the special area, visitors gained an insight into the entire production and life cycle of mattresses, starting with resources and ending with the reuse of individual materials. Clearly presented industry insights and selected best practices - carefully curated in cooperation with the B2B network möbelfertigung from the Vincentz Network - provided orientation in a dynamically growing market and supplied answers to questions that move the industry: How does good eco-design work? What will the mattress of the future consist of? How can old mattresses be recycled under sustainability aspects? What is the monetary potential of material recycling? What role does the "legislation" factor play? And what does the consumer actually want?
