Panel Discussion on the Digital Product Passport: Start Now Instead of Waiting!
The Digital Product Passport (DPP) is gaining momentum – making it the perfect time for companies to start implementing it. While the exact timeline for the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) is still uncertain, industry experts anticipate that a solution with transition periods will need to be implemented by 2028. However, the foundation has already been laid, meaning the industry should not wait for regulatory requirements: data, standards, and infrastructure are already available, along with initial use cases.
In this panel discussion, Anika Degenhardt (Daten Competence Center e.V.), Stefan Willms (Morphe), Peter Jürgens (Polipol Holding), and Holger Berg (Wuppertal Institute) will explore the challenges and opportunities of the DPP. The participants agree that every product will eventually require a digital twin – a so-called data container – to comply with legal requirements and create transparency across the entire value chain. The experts will discuss different approaches to implementation in a 40-minute session, moderated by industry expert Sascha Tapken.
A key focus of the discussion is the importance of a unified industry solution. Through shared standards and early action, the furniture industry can pave the way for a sustainable product lifecycle and establish itself as a pioneer for other sectors.
