Dr. Munish Chanana
Dr. Munish Chanana studied Chemistry at the University of Münster (Germany) and accomplished his PhD research in 2010 at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, where he could gather experience in the fields of physical chemistry, material science, polymer science and various nanomaterials, including their interactions with biological systems. After his PhD, he went for a post-doc fellowship to the University of Vigo (Spain) and thereafter, he joined the group of Wood Material Science at ETH Zürich, where he had for the first time the chance to work with wood and wood-based materials. After a short stay at ETH Zürich, he joined in 2013 the Department of Physical Chemistry at the University of Bayreuth as a group leader and habilitation candidate. In 2016 he went back to ETH as group leader in group of Wood Material Science, where he co-founded the start-up company Swiss Wood Solutions AG. The company provides pioneering product solutions made of sustainable wood from domestic forests, with the aim to contribute to the preservation of endangered tropical woods and to the reduction of environmentally harmful plastics in everyday products. Currently he is holding the position of the Head of Research and Development (CSO) and is the deputy CEO of the company.
