Demographic change brings a high and growing demand for housing for senior citizens. Studies by the project developer Terragon assume a short- to medium-term demand of approximately 500,000 serviced flats in Germany. This high demand leads to a strong demand for custom-fit, scalable, lifecycle-resistant interior design concepts and thus offers new opportunities for the project business of the furniture and furnishing industry.
But we will only be able to solve the challenges posed by demographic change if we create rooms and furniture for them that are attractively designed and still function well when the first age-related handicaps appear. That is the claim with which we brought Universal Rooms to life.
With Universal Rooms, a design and furnishing concept was created that follows the design principles of Universal Design and thus creates a non-stigmatised feel-good atmosphere for living in old age. The concept was awarded the Universal Design Expert Award in 2020 by a renowned jury of experts.
