The event
In a time where sustainability and circularity are no longer optional but essential, since some years Mogu proposes a radical yet truly tangible approach to material innovation through mycelium technology. The lecture “Designing with Nature” explores how mycelium can be transformed into high-performance, sustainable interior design products, with a special focus on acoustic panels. Mogu Acoustic panels are the result of years of research combining biotechnology, design, and circular economy principles. Made from upcycled textile residues and mycelium, these panels offer excellent sound absorption, fire resistance, and a striking aesthetic versatility. Their organic origin and unique production process allow to deliver a family of products that are 100% bio-based, biodegradable, and VOC-free, contributing to healthier indoor environments. Along her lecture, Serena Camere - Director of SQIM’s business line and brand Mogu - will discuss how working with mycelium can positively disrupt conventional industrial processes, enabling the creation of natural, circular, and high-performance materials and products for interior design and architecture. A journey at the intersection between nature, technology, and ingenuity, to redefine design responsibility by means of a radical approach, progressively penetrating our everyday spaces thanks to innovative, sustainable, and standardised products. The session will guide the audience through the science and design process behind mycelium-based materials, presenting real-world applications across architecture and interior design. Key products like FIELDS, WAVE, KITE, and the FORESTA SYSTEM will be showcased, demonstrating how form, function, and sustainability can seamlessly coexist. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how biofabricated materials and products not only address environmental challenges, but also inspire to inform new creative directions in contemporary design.
