The event
In my presentation, I will describe how we at Fraunhofer IGB utilize exclusive biobased building-blocks from nature to create innovative functional chemicals and materials. Our combined approaches in chemical synthesis and material development aim to maximize the functional integration of bio-based raw materials into high-quality, sustainable products. I will highlight four key projects: Smartfelt, which develops insulation materials from sheep wool; TAKEMA, focusing on tannin-keratin composites; KERAbond, innovating with chicken feather keratin; and the development of Caramide®, a new class of bio-based polyamides. I will also discuss our expertise in selecting and evaluating biobased raw materials for technological applications, as well as how we provide comprehensive support for companies in converting renewable resources. Our unique Laboratory for Technical Biopolymers specializes in developing biobased functional materials from concept to demonstrator development. Moreover, I will emphasize our commitment to applied research for industry, which drives us to identify suitable raw materials, integrate functional biobased components, intensify development processes, and provide tailored technology solutions. My presentation will cover our service portfolio, ranging from feasibility studies to customized development work in the field of applied research, ensuring that we meet the needs of sustainable chemistry.
