No chance for product piracy at the interzum

"No Copy! Pro Original" to combat property right infringements

Give piracy the red card! Koelnmesse is taking a stand against product piracy at the interzum. The "No Copy! Pro Original" initiative will be represented for the entire duration of the fair at the stand B080 on the boulevard. The initiative's trademark, a hand holding a red card bearing the statement "No Copy!", will serve as an attention-getter. The stand serves as a point of contact and advice for exhibitors and visitors alike on all issues relating to property right infringements. Experts will be available to provide information and assistance. If required, Koelnmesse staff at the "No Copy!" stand can even arrange contact to specialist lawyers.

Wherever many new trends and products are showcased, for instance at trade fairs like the interzum, there is always a risk of product piracy. At the same time, trade fairs offer affected businesses excellent opportunities to identify the perpetrators. At the interzum, the place to go to find answers to all questions on this issue is the "No Copy!" stand. It aims to raise exhibitors' and visitors' awareness of the problem, while providing them with direct assistance. In addition to existing patents and brands, industrial property rights can be used to protect utility models and designs. Exhibitors can find out how this specifically applies to their products and brands at the "No Copy!" stand. "The problem of product piracy is increasingly affecting the international trade fair industry and must be countered with dedication. The "No Copy!" initiative serves to actively assist exhibitors. We do not want to give those who copy products any chances at our trade fairs," stresses Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse.

Prior to the start of the trade fair, exhibitors should clarify whether they hold industrial property rights to their own products or brands. They must then bring the relevant documents with them to the interzum to be able to take direct action should the need arise. If at a trade fair exhibitors notice that products have been copied, they should take immediate steps to obtain declaration of forbearance. The experts of "No Copy!" would be glad to advise you on this matter.

The "No Copy!" stand at the interzum is just one of several measures taken by Koelnmesse to combat product piracy. If Koelnmesse already has specific evidence of an existing or imminent property right infringement prior to an event, Koelnmesse contacts the exhibitor affected in advance informing them of the legal consequences of property right infringements. If the exhibitor has already been convicted of product piracy, Koelnmesse even reserves the right to exclude it entirely from the next event of this kind.

Koelnmesse's commitment to combating product piracy started in 2007 with the signing of an intellectual property memorandum. In addition to Koelnmesse, this document was signed by representatives of around 25 Chinese group organisations. By signing the memorandum, the business partners pledge to adhere to the relevant German regulations and thereby actively protect intellectual property rights at the trade fairs.

Useful information and explanations on the subject of industrial property rights can be found in the "No Copy! Pro Original" brochure, which is available at www.interzum.com. The "No Copy" counter can be found at the interzum from 16 to 19 of May 2017 at the stand B080 on the boulevard.

This service is offered in co-operation with the IP Chapter of the Cologne Lawyers Association (Kölner Anwaltverein, Ausschuss Gewerblicher Rechtschutz): www.koelner.anwaltverein.de.
