Home textiles
The inspiration is rooted in nature. The latest fabrics abound with visions of wild animals to make for eye-catching patterns. Whether boasting a provocative leopard look or zebra stripes, flashy and boldly coloured are in. Natural materials and hues act as a contrast that pair beautifully with intense trend colours.
Another major trend in home textiles is sustainability and ecological production. Fabrics made of pure natural fibres and blends – from silk, cotton and linen to wool – can be seen in all of the major fabric companies' collections. Nature is key. The Bark Cloth company produces textiles and composite materials from the bark of the East African fig tree, a manufacturing process that UNESCO has even declared a part of cultural heritage. Recycling is also increasingly playing a role; for example, left over wool is being re-used. The objective is clear: to produce textiles entirely from renewable resources. Even 100 percent paper, as is currently being done successfully in carpeting. In other segments, materials are being blended so skillfully that silk, metal and cotton are being refined with a special wash and technology to create an interesting re-interpretation of traditional silk.
